The Feldenkrais Method®
The method was developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984), physicist, engineer and judo master. He was a progressive thinker who understood long before it was accepted that the human brain can continue to change throughout life (now called brain plasticity). He also understood that movement was an incredibly powerful and effective way to communicate with the brain in order to improve human functioning on all levels. In the 1940s he suffered a debilitating knee injury which was the catalyst for his path to figuring out how to re-educate his brain and change his way of moving to heal his knee. He worked with a tremendous range of people from children with Cerebral Palsy to famous violinist, Yehudi Menuhin. He also collaborated with Margaret Mead (anthropologist), Karl Pribram (neuroscientist) and Jean Houston (philosopher).
The Feldenkrais Method® is for anyone who wants to reconnect with their natural abilities to move, think, and feel. Can you remember when you were a child, just running or skipping down the street for no other reason than the pure joy of it? The Feldenkrais Method® can help you recapture that ease of movement, helping you become aware of automated, habitual movement patterns that you’ve developed over the years and teach you new, more pleasurable and effective alternatives.
